Two arrested, 12 ounces of cocaine seized in Amherst County

Two people were arrested on drug distribution charges and 12 ounces of cocaine was seized in Amherst County Wednesday following a multi-week narcotics investigation.
Investigators arrested Alphonso Sanchez, 38, of Mexico and of Durham, North Carolina, and Marsha Herrera, 37, of Nathalie, for cocaine distribution after several recent undercover purchases and the delivery Wednesday evening of 12 ounces of cocaine, according to a news release.
Amherst Investigators working with Durham North Carolina Investigators and assisted by Lynchburg VICE Officers, Central Virginia Drug Task Force, and Halifax County Sheriff’s Office tracked the suspects Wednesday as they left Durham on their way north to Madison Heights Virginia for their scheduled delivery.
Seized in the arrest was 12 ounces of cocaine, a 2007 Chevy Impala, a 2009 Chevy HHR and $13,150 cash.
Sanchez faces charges including three counts of distribution of cocaine, possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, distribution of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school, conspiracy to distribute cocaine, and transporting controlled substances into the Commonwealth.
Herrera is charged with distribution of cocaine, distribution within 1,000 feet of a school, and conspiracy to distribute cocaine.
At the time of the arrest, both Herrera and Sanchez had multiple forms of false identifications.
Both are being held in the Blue Ridge Regional Jail/Amherst Adult Detention Center without bond pending an advisement hearing the Amherst General District Court.
