Virginia Democrats are calling on Governor Bob McDonnell to disclose the full extent of his relationship with businessman Jonnie Williams, after new reports that Williams gave thousands more to the Governor and members of his family.
The Washington Post reported Wednesday that Williams gave or loaned $70 thousand to a corporation owned by the Governor and his sister, and another $50 thousand to the Governor's wife.
In an exclusive interview with Richmond television station WTVR, McDonnell denied that Williams' company, Star Scientific, received any special benefits from the state, and he responded to recent rumors that he was preparing to resign.
"I don't know where these things come from," McDonnell told WTVR reporter Lorenzo Hall. "The press, some of the press accounts have just been completely out of control, about rumors about resignations, and so forth. I am thoroughly enjoying and being incredibly productive, I think, with my team as Governor of Virginia. We've got an awful lot of things that we need to do. There have been a number of irresponsible rumors that have been put out.," McDonnell said.
Wednesday morning, Virginia Democrats said they are waiting for a federal investigation to run its course, but they called on the Governor to provide complete information about his relationship with Williams.
