A fire station in Lynchburg will be closed for the next two to three months because of renovations.
Both staff and equipment have been moved from the Fort Avenue station to other fire stations in Lynchburg.
The fire station is getting a new roof, floors, paint, bathroom fixtures, and an electrical upgrade. The fire station is about 50 years old.
“We want citizens to be aware that the station is temporarily closed,” chief Brad Ferguson wrote in a news release. “We don’t want anyone coming to the station for medical help only to learn that we aren’t there.”
Ferguson says that residents living in the area serviced by the Fort Hill station won’t see a noticeable difference in emergency response time.
“We want residents to know that we fully intend to respond to their calls as quickly as we always have while the station undergoes renovation. Our first priority is serving our citizens,” Ferguson wrote.
