Lord Botetourt and Staunton River gave autistic player Joshua Leonard a play to remember

BOTETOURT CO., Va. -

It's a touch down a Lord Botetourt High School football player will always remember!

Friday night, the team played Staunton River High School.

It was a big game for #89 Joshua Leonard.

Joshua has autism.

During one of the last plays of the game, the coaches and players from both teams helped him score.

"This is something that couldn't be taught in any other way, his peers, his football coaches have come along side of him and given him something that we as parents and as teachers couldn't give him and that's acceptance and love and the ability to be successful at something that usually would have been very, very difficult for him," says Joshua's mom, Angie Leonard.

Joshua's mom tells WDBJ7 after scoring Joshua thanked God and dedicated his touchdown to his grandfather who died the week before.
