Timothy Wellons pleaded no contest on two counts of aggravated involuntary manslaughter, one count of assault and battery and one count of DUI in court Friday.
WDBJ7 Anchor Chris Hurst was in the courtroom Friday. We learned that Wellons had a .34 blood alcohol level an hour after the crash.
Investigators testified that Wellons was combative to nurses and EMTs and doctors had to give him a sedative to calm him down.
An attendant/nurse in his room planned to testify that when they asked him what happened, he said he side-swiped a tractor trailer and then he laughed.
Wellons will be sentenced to a minimum of 4 years and a maximum of 42 years.
The man accused of killing two people in a drunk driving crash in Roanoke is expected in court Friday.
Timothy Wellons will likely enter a plea at the hearing at 12:30 pm.
Police say his blood alcohol level was nearly five times the legal limit an hour after the crash that this past June.
Officers say his car slammed into a tractor trailer which hit another tractor trailer truck, which caused an explosion.
Both truck drivers died.
Wellons is charged with manslaughter among other crimes.
