Bedford art camp provides learning in disguise
Math is being disguised as art at a camp in Bedford this week.
The Bower Center is hosting its annual summer arts camp. For the next two weeks, kids will learn about everything from painting to pottery and photography.
This year organizers are mixing in an extra layer of learning. Thanks to a grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts, the camp is also teaching math skills by having students create their own art and music.
"There is a real connection between math and music, particularly with patterns, repetition, and sets," said Sara Braaten, acting director of the Bower Center.
This week's camp is already underway, but another one is being held next week.
The cost per-child is $175.00 per-week and $150 for families with more than one child. Some scholarship funds are available. Call 540-586-4235 for more information.
