ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. -

Tuesday, August 27th is the first day back to school for Roanoke County students.

Cave Spring High School starts every year off with the unveiling of the new knight.

This is one of Roanoke County's oldest tradition that started back in 1960.

Fifty-three years later, Katie Fortner is the new 2014 Cave Spring Knight.

Cheerleaders walks the mysterious new knight down the aisle.

On stage, the principal ceremoniously unveils the senior underneath.

Say hello to the 2014 Cave Spring Knight, Katie Fortner.

"I'll be at all the games, all the sporting events, even non sporting events, pep rallies, just be a face of the knights," Fortner said.

The first student was knighted back in 1960.

Previous knights include football player Tiki Barber, and WDBJ7's very own David Kaplan.
