The home is now gutted and unsafe to live in.

DANVILLE, Va. -

An overloaded electrical socket started a fire that destroyed a Danville family's home on Wednesday.

The fire department got the call on Cain Street in eastern Danville around 2 a.m.

The house was already covered in flames and heavily damaged. Crews battled the fire for three hours. The fire marshal says it started in the front living room.

No one was hurt. The home's residents were out of town for the night. The family has a place to stay, according to the fire department.

Firefighters say the home is now gutted and unsafe to live in. The Fire Marshal's Office will investigate the fire to determine its cause.
