The cause of the fire was electrical, and investigators say it was accidental.

ROANOKE, Va. -

Investigators believe Thursday evening's fire in Roanoke was started by an electrical problem.

Firefighters say the flames caused about $12,000 in damage.

------------

Roanoke City dispatchers confirm fire crews fought a house fire in the 100 block of 14th Street SW around 8:00 p.m. Thursday.

Dispatchers say neighbors reported seeing flames outside the home.

Firefighters tell us that three people were at home at the time of the fire. All three were able to escape.

Investigators are working to determine what caused the fire. They know that it started in a rear second story bedroom. Firefighters were able to contain the fire mainly to that room, but the entire upstairs has heavy smoke and water damage.

The family has been displaced from their home. The Red Cross will provide assistance.
