The truck overturned on Route 58 in Leggett's Bottom

HALIFAX COUNTY, Va. -

Environmental crews are cleaning up about 60 gallons of spilled diesel fuel near the Dan River in Halifax County.

A tractor trailer crashed on Highway 58 near Leggett's Bottom Wednesday evening.  The truck was carrying paper products but about 60 gallons spilled from the truck's fuel tank, according to Halifax County Emergency Services.

Firefighters were able to contain most of the spill.  Private environmental contractors will now remove the spilled fuel and contaminated soil.  That process is expected to take a few days.
