UPDATE: Police identify victims of deadly motorcycle wreck in Salem

SALEM, Va. -

UPDATE: Salem police have identified the victims in the deadly motorcycle accident that took place on Wildwood Road in Salem on Saturday.

The accident involved a Dodge Charger that was occupied by several individuals and a motorcycle with its driver and passenger.

According to a news release, Barry Capps, 66, of Whitsett, North Carolina was driving a motorcycle with his wife Shelby Capps, 66, as a passenger. They were headed south on Route 112/Wildwood Road near its intersection with Horner Lane around 4:30 p.m. when the accident took place.

Capps and his wife were both taken to the hospital for treatment, where Barry Capps was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the Dodge Charger was Linda McPherson, 66, of New Castle. She was also taken to the hospital for treatment.

There is no update on the condition of the survivors at this time.

No charges have been filed and the accident is still under investigation.

This afternoon at approximately 4:30 p.m., the Salem Police Department responded to an accident with injuries on Wildwood Road, Route 112, near the road’s intersection with Horner Lane.

The accident involved a Dodge Charger that was occupied by several individuals and a motorcycle with its driver and passenger.

Both vehicles were headed south on Wildwood Road at the time of the accident.

The male and female who were on the motorcycle were transported to local hospitals, where the male operator was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the Dodge also was transported to a local hospital, but there is no word on her condition.

The Police Department’s Crash Team is still investigating the accident and charges are pending.
