ROANOKE, Va. -

A project that promises to change the Norfolk Southern skyline is now under way in Roanoke.

Crews have started dismantling the building between the East End Shops and Interstate 581.

Hard to miss, it's the one with two smokestacks and the Norfolk Southern sign. The railroad hasn't used it for years.

The demolition will make room for a new pedestrian bridge from an employee parking lot.

The work should be completed this summer.
