450 dispatchers and communications professionals are there learning more about new technology that could offer better connectivity.

ROANOKE, Va. -

You might look twice if you pass the Hotel Roanoke this week.

Command Centers, flashing lights and high tech equipment dot the front of the Conference Center.

It's for the Virginia Public Safety Communications Conference and Expo.

Four-hundred fifty-dispatchers and communications professionals are there learning more about new technology that could offer better connectivity.

"Two technologies we're tracking very closely is Next generation 911 and broadband for public safety which would allow us better interoperability," explains Rich Troshak, Conference Co-Chair.

Both systems would allow people to communicate beyond voice capability.

This is the 5th year the conference has been at the Hotel Roanoke.

It wraps on Friday.
