ROANOKE,Va. -

After 17 years of service in our area, Bishop Neff Powell is retiring from the Episcopal Diocese of Southwestern Virginia.

Neff, along with bishop-elect, Mark Bourlakas, held a round table discussion Friday morning. The Reverend Doctor Katharine Jefferts Schori, who is the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church also attended. Clergy members discussed some ways to reach those beyond the sanctuary.

“We're just hopeful and expect there are new challenges, we have many unchurched people in the country and many disaffected Christians. And I think the challenge will be is how do we reach out,” said Bishop-elect Mark Bourlakas.

Bourlakas's consecration will be held on Saturday. He most recently served as dean at Christ Church Cathedral in Louisville, Kentucky.
