ROANOKE CO., Va. -

A new service at Explore Park in Roanoke County will allow you to spend more time on the water.

Rock On Charters is partnering with Explore Park to offer float and wade fishing trips on the section of the Roanoke River that flows through the park.

Access to the river will be from Rutrough Point and from there, Rock On Charters will provide the boat, gear, and expertise. It's part of a master plan to attract more visitors to the park ever since the living history area closed in 2007.

"The Explore Park is a gem in the valley and I hope this is a first stepping stone to seeing it back to active. We're glad to be partners with Explore Park and we hope to see more things coming in the future," Owner Ken Trail said.

Rock On Charters is a full service outfitter, with three USCG licensed Captains offering fully guided float trips on the New River, James River, Jackson River, Maury River, and multiple trout waters and high mountain streams.

They also offer striped bass charters on Smith Mountain Lake.

Some of the money from each guided tour will help fund park operations and improvements.
