Two Rockbridge County men who are working to shine a light on hunger

LEXINGTON, Va. -

They might be little, but they could make a big difference.

"Feed the Fire Candles -we want to empower communities to alleviate hunger in their area, locally," explains co-founder David Khoshpasand.

Feed the Fire Candles hopes to bring the problem of hunger to light.

Explains Khoshpasand, "What we do is create soy wax candles, for each time we sell those, we donate 4-meals locally in that area."

Khoshpasand and Jamie Higgins are just two of the guys behind the project.
The Parry McCluer grads have known each other since they were kids

Remember Higgins, "We would always come together and try to pitch business ideas. We created 10, 20 business ideas and for whatever reason, whether it was money we couldn't get or whether it wasn't a good idea, nothing ever worked out."

Until now.
And, the guys say a project which ensures money spent in an area, stays in that area- was the only way to go.

Even though the project took off in May, it's already making a difference. So far, its provided 6,752 meals

So far the candles are in stores throughout Harrisonburg, Staunton and Lexington.
Tracey Lackey owns Intimate U in Lexington.
She says having the candles in her business, just made "scents."

"I think that's very important to really look within our local community and take care of ourselves and then once we feel better, and doing better, help outside of our community," says Lackey.

And, this month, the business got a boost after six Kroger stores began selling the candles.
Meaning 2014 is looking bright.

"We're aiming for 100-thousand meals this year, so hopefully we can hit that mark," says Higgins smiling.
