Fever, headache, fatigue... sounds like the flu, right?
Instead, a local woman's diagnosis turned out to be Lyme disease.
Saturday, friends of Valinda Whichard Edwards hosted a fundraiser and car show to help her with her chronic condition.
Vendors, raffles and food were all set up at Hollins Road Baptist Church to help raise money.
At times, Valinda's illness has gotten so bad she has been unable to work, drive and walk on her own.
"We're raising money for me and my husband to fly back and forth from Seattle. Insurance does not cover Lyme Disease they don't recognize chronic Lyme Disease and this is going to help us tremendously," says Whichard Edwards.
Lyme Disease is caused by a deer tick.
Every year, approximately 30-thousand cases of the disease are reported to the Centers for Disease Control.
But, even the CDC says those numbers don't accurately reflect the number of victims.
It says only a fraction of the illnesses are actually reported.
