Roanoke was built on the railroads, and people hope the city's future is tied to the rails.
That was the word from a gathering this morning from RAIL Solution.
RAIL Solution is a non-profit rail advocacy group.
Saturday, it held its annual meeting at the Roanoke Higher Education Center.
The chairman of the group believes how we get to the train station is as important as the station itself.
"We want to make it easy for people to arrive by a variety of transportation, so whatever is convenient and efficient for them so they don't have to leave a car here for a trip for 4-days and can maybe even walk few blocks from their home and catch public transportation to interconnect," explains chairman Rees Shearer.
The group's organizers say the meeting is especially important since Amtrak service is about to be restored in Roanoke.
Student from Virginia Tech conceptualized what a new rail station might look like.
