WDBJ7's Joe Dashiell reports people kept on trying to drive through the floodwaters anyway.

VINTON, Va. -

Karen Garrett has lived in Vinton for 20 years.
And she's seen enough storms to know what they can do.

"I told them don't go through there, because the water's deeper than you realize and they'll get stuck," she told us, "but they're not listening."

When a car stalled in the rising water on Kermit Avenue, Garrett called 911. And Vinton officers came to the rescue.

Tinker Creek was still rolling late Wednesday. Roads remained closed. And many families were dealing with the effects of another wave of water.

Frank and Dorothy Taylor now have a flooded basement.

'We just about had everything cleaned up," Taylor said. "Now it's flooded again, about 2 1/2 feet of water in there again."

Families who thought they had seen the worst are starting over, and they're hoping that more storms won't bring more trouble.
