ROANOKE,Va. -

Dozens of families this weekend will enjoy the freedom of religion at the Shantiniketan Temple in Roanoke. Several years ago some Bhutanese citizens left their homeland seeking refuge. They wanted to be able to openly practice their religion.
They are celebrating with prayer, song and dance. The will also be readings from their holy book.

“It's very, very, very important for the community because we are Hindu's. We want to practice our religion. We were not allowed to practice our religion in our culture back in Bhutan,” said Roanoke resident, Kashi Dangal.

The festivities continue through Sunday.
