Robert Hardie gave more than $1 million to his alma mater.

ROANOKE, Va. -

A Roanoke Catholic School graduate donated more than a million dollars to his alma mater.

Robert Hardie graduated in 1983.

He gave Roanoke Catholic the money in honor of his mother who graduated from Our Lady Nazareth School, Catholic's predecessor, in 1950.

The money will help renovate several buildings on the campus, provide a full scholarship to two students and give financial help to many other students.

"It's life changing, quite honestly, for a school of our size to get a gift of that magnitude is making a huge impact on students from pre-K all the way through 12th grade and beyond," school principal Patrick Patterson said.

School leaders say since announcing this donation, they've gotten at least 15 other families who have reached out and said they want to donate as well.
