We came in far from first, but had a great time raising money for a great cause.

16 teams competed Saturday in the 2nd annual Smith Mountain Lake Dragon Boat Race & Festival at Parkway Marina.  Here are the final results:

1st Place - BAC Paddlers - 1:40.77
2nd - Unreliable Boating Skills - 1:41.47
3rd - Covenant Crewsers - 1:42.72

Top Individual Fundraiser: Susan Arthur of Cool Running
Top Fundraising Team: Covenant Crewsers

Lords and Ladies of the Underground won Best Tent and Best Dressed Drummer.

You might be used to seeing fishermen with their catch of the day on the lake, but how about waterways filled with dragons?

Saturday, dragon boats took to the water for the 2nd annual Smith Mountain Lake Dragon Boat race and festival.

The long boats traditionally have 20-paddlers, a drummer and someone who steers.

The group uses power, speed and synchronization to cross the finish.

Saturday morning, teams worked to put their best oar forward and raise money for the Presbyterian Community Center.

The center fights homelessness and hunger, and spectators say that's something they can get behind.

"I think it's very important in these days, no one has money, so this, you can can fun with your family and raise money for charity, it's great!" says New York resident Marian Mangano.

WDBJ7 had a team competing in the event- the WDBJ7 Warriors.

Some familiar faces were there along with some folks from behind the scenes.

The WDBJ7 Warriors were not among the winners Saturday, but team members say they're looking forward to competing again next year.
