Metal frames reach up to the wooden ceiling of what will soon be the Harvester Performance Center, a premier venue in Rocky Mount.
“This is really the cornerstone of an economic development effort for the town of Rocky Mount, and to see it coming together as good as it is. It's on time; it's on budget," said Assistant Town Manager Matt Hankins.
Hankins says interest from other businesses about nearby retail space is starting to peak. "That's really what this public investment is all about. It’s about attracting those businesses, filling those store fronts that we have that are available and trying to make our economy go."
Officials estimate that the performance venue will hold about 500 seats, more than what was originally projected.
A box office and concession stand is a part of the interior building plan. The center will also provide other spaces.
“The top space is going to be our performance center and the lower space is going to be a meeting center. We expect that it will be able to accommodate probably 220 or so seated down there,” said Hankins.
The center will be able to host receptions, organization meetings or banquets. It's a need officials say is not met. If construction continues to stay on time, the venue is set to open in May.
