Virginia's Explore Park

Roanoke County leaders are providing more information about a news conference Thursday morning that deals with the future of Virginia's Explore Park. An updated media advisory includes the following explanation:

Details will be presented outlining a long-term agreement in principle, regarding the ongoing stewardship of the property. This announcement will have significant impact on the recreational landscape in the Roanoke Valley, and set the groundwork for future recreation and economic growth in our area.

The future of Explore Park is the subject of a news conference Thursday morning. And we're learning it could involve a long-term lease on the property.

The Chairman of the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors Mike Altizer and the Chairman of the Virginia Recreational Facilities Authority K. C. Bratton will take part in the 10 AM news conference at the Blue Ridge Parkway Visitors Center.

The media advisory promises an "important announcement regarding the future of Explore."

The release doesn't provide any more details, but we're told the proposal calls for a 99- year lease, with Roanoke County taking over operation of the park.
