We’re learning more about a Sunday night shooting in Roanoke.

Police say a Salem man shot his sister and brother-in-law prior to taking his own life.

The shooting happened just before 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the 100 block of Houston Avenue. Investigators say Thomas Hubert Radford Jr., 61, shot his brother-in-law, Ernest John Booden, near the back of the home.

Radford then went inside the home and shot his sister, 60-year-old Cynthia Booden. Booden then ran to a neighbor’s house to call police. Radford then shot and killed himself in the backyard. A gun was found next to Radford’s body.

Investigators say ongoing family issues preceded the shooting. There have been no previous domestic violence calls to the home, according to the Roanoke Police Department.

Ernest and Cynthia Booden were taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital to be treated.
