The Great Road Encampment celebrates the 18th century

You didn't need a time machine to travel back to back to the 18th century, Saturday.
You just needed to visit Montgomery County.

For the third year, The Great Road Encampment transformed the land near the Elliston Fire Department into a camp from the 1700s.

Re-enactors portrayed Native-American and Colonial life- whether it was in cooking, hunting or even playing.

The purpose of the event is to celebrate the history of region and The Great Road which lead explorers and those looking for a better way of life to the western frontier.

"I want people to walk away with more knowledge and pride in the history of our region, that's what we want to hammer home with this. And, to learn more about what people actually went through to be here," explains organizer Henry Bryant.

The event continues Sunday, 9a.m. until 4 p.m.
