Playing and running around aren't the only things going on at Roanoke parks this summer.

The city's Parks and Arts Program continued Saturday at Highland Park.

The park was transformed into a gallery and fencing from nearby tennis courts served as easels

The idea behind the program to introduce Roanoke communities to the arts by letting the art come to them.

"There is a variety of work being shown here. Some are of old Southwest neighborhoods, most of it is animals, still lifes or landscapes," explains gallery owner Gerry Hubert.

This summer was the first for the Parks and Art program.

The last event of the summer happens on Sunday, September 15th at Elmwood Park.
