The Franklin County Salvation Army helps residents with rent and utilities, helps find shelter for the homeless and school supplies for kids but there's a problem.
"We are in dire need of financial assistance to help keep our service unit going,
till our bell ringing starts November the first, said Salvation Army Chair, Beth Wooten.
Because of its size, the Salvation Army operates as an emergency service, and it doesn't receive help from headquarters.
For every dollar that Franklin County Salvation Army receives, 10 cents goes to headquarters. Volunteers for the organization say its services are much needed in the community.
"It's very vital because there's a lot of people in Franklin County; there electricity would be cut off, they could be evicted, they not have food or clothing for their kids when school starts.
The Jones family is currently being help by Salvation Army. After leaving Florida to find better jobs, the family of four became homeless.
The organization is putting them up in a hotel. In the past Angela Jones donated to Salvation Army through her pay check. She never thought it would be her saving grace.
“It's less stress, that's basically what it is. Instead of me sitting here going “oh my gosh” we're in a car and who's going to find us this way, we're sitting in a hotel room and we're safe, said Angela Jones.
Our situation is desperate and we need the help for the people of Franklin County.
