More visitors are coming and staying a while, which is good news for the Roanoke Valley in more ways than one.
Hotel Room demand in the valley is up more than 4%, or nearly 30,000 more rooms, through August of this year compared to last year.
The Roanoke Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau handles all the advertising for our region.
In January, Roanoke City, Roanoke County and Salem entered a three-year agreement to raise their hotel taxes and give three percent of the total tax to the Visitors Bureau.
Because of this jump in room demand, it will give them an even bigger budget to promote our region.
"We can plan further in our marketing efforts. We can do a two year plan, we can do a three year plan and be able to get those results," said Toursim Director Catherine Fox.
Tourism officials say the re-branding of the area as Virginia's Blue Ridge has helped with marketing.
