Need a ride? Some new programs in Southern Virginia may help get you where you need to go.

Mobility Management, a program within the Southern Area Agency on Aging, is offering free or reduced cost vouchers to cover the cost of a trip.

This is only for non-emergency trips to the doctor's office or a store along the way and for people with low incomes or can't drive.

"The great thing about the voucher program is it uses four local partners, transportation providers here in the area, so we're putting the money right back into the community," said Brooks Jones, the Mobility Manager of the program.

Another program starting later this year plans to offer the same services to Veterans including trips to the VA in Salem.

The agency is also working to help people with transportation who are just getting out of jail after serving less than six months.

Grant money from the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation is paying for the programs.
