Roanoke police are bumping up patrols during Halloween.

If you're looking to get into some Halloween fun this weekend in the city of Roanoke, you'll want to plan ahead.

The Roanoke City Police Department will be upping patrols all throughout the city and especially in the downtown area.

A number of bars and restaurants will hold Halloween celebrations so officers plan to keep an eye out for drunk drivers.

Officers said Halloween always tends to be a big holiday in Roanoke.

The department hasn’t released which areas will see the most law enforcement presence, but they say people should be prepared.

"It's data driven,” said Sgt. Will Drake. “We pull the data for where we've had the accidents involving alcohol and the DUI arrests and were going to saturate those areas and we're going to try to make those arrests on them."

The police department has reminded cab companies of the busy weekend. They’re hoping they will be able to provide enough cabs for the crowds.
