A suspect is in custody after a three-hour standoff Monday in Roanoke County.

William Hodges Jr., 36, is facing five felony charges and one misdemeanor.

The incident began early Monday morning when a woman was assaulted and taken to the hospital, according to the Roanoke County Police Department. Investigators went to the Woodway Road home around noon Monday to serve a warrant to Hodges, but he wouldn’t come out of the home.

A negotiator was able to talk Hodges into coming out of the home peacefully. He was not armed at the time.

Neighbors were not evacuated because the home was off the main road and in a wooded area.

Earlier Monday neighbors reported hearing loud bangs. Roanoke County Police say no shots were fired, and the loud bangs were gas canisters.

Bandy Road is near the Roanoke City/Roanoke County line.
