UPDATE: Tractor trailer accident cleared on Interstate 81 in Wythe County

WYTHE CO., Va. -

According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, the  tractor trailer accident on southbound Interstate 81 at mile marker 80 in Wythe County has been cleared.

The wreck took place at 10:42 a.m. on Interstate 81 South at the 79.4 mile marker in Wythe County.

According to a news release, a tractor trailer driven by Scott Lukemire, 51, of Greenville, Tennessee ran into the back of another tractor trailer driven by Frank Stoner, 47, of Goose Creek, South Carolina.

Scott Lukemire was injured and taken to Wythe County Community Hospital,  and was later taken by Virginia State Police Med-Flight II to Bristol Regional Hospital for treatment.

The crash is still under investigation and no charges have been placed at this time.


A wreck on Interstate 81 is causing delays for some drivers in Wythe County Wedneday afternoon.

State police say the wreck is mile marker 79 in the southbound lanes

A tractor trailer apparently hit another tractor trailer.

There's no word on any injuries.

The right southbound lane is still closed but we're told traffic is moving again in the area.
