Workers have removed the detour forcing drivers off of southbound Interstate 81 at the Dixie Caverns exit. It was in place for an extra 2 1/2 hours.
State police will slow traffic in both directions on I-81 in Montgomery County starting around 10:30 a.m. Monday so workers can do blasting as a part of that project.
A common Interstate 81 detour is in place in Montgomery County right now.
The Virginia Department of Transportation is building a truck climbing lane there.
For the next hour you'll have to get off the interstate headed south at Dixie Caverns, just across the Roanoke County line.
You'll take Route 11 until Christiansburg where you can get back on the Interstate.
That detour ends at 6:00 a.m. today.
Around 10:30 a.m., expect more delays in that same area.
