Virginia State police investigate deadly Pittsylvania County wreck

The Virginia State Police are investigating a deadly crash that happened around 2:30 Saturday morning.

It happened on Route 41 one tenth mile north of Route 750 in Pittsylvania County.

State police say a 2001 Mercury Sable was traveling southbound on Route 41 when it ran off the right side of the roadway striking a tree and fence.

The driver Timothy Mathew Stephens, age 55, of Blairs, Virginia was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is not known at this time if alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.
