UPDATE: Salem shooting victim dies

The man who was shot last week at the Oak Park Apartments has died.

SALEM, Va. -

A man who was shot at a Salem apartment complex Friday night has died.

Damian Wright died at the hospital Wednesday. He was 35.

Wright was shot around 9:30 p.m. Friday at the Oak Park Apartments in the 100 block of Otter Avenue. When police arrived at the apartment complex, Wright was on the ground in the parking lot.

Jasper Reed Jackson of Bedford was arrested in Roanoke early Saturday morning. Jackson is being held at the Roanoke County/Salem Jail without bond. More charges against Jackson are pending.

A Bedford man has been charged in connection to a shooting Friday night in Salem.

Jasper Reed Jackson was arrested in Roanoke early Saturday morning.

He’s accused of shooting Damian Wright of Roanoke at the Oak Park Apartments in Salem on Friday night. Wright’s injuries are described as life-threatening.

Jackson has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, failure to appear, assault and battery of a law enforcement officer, and obstruction of justice. He is being held in the Roanoke County/Salem Jail without bond.

The Oak Park Apartments are on Otter Avenue.

A man was shot Friday evening in Salem.

The shooting happened around 9:45 p.m. at the Oak Park Apartments on Otter Avenue.

The victim was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

No one has been arrested.
