UPDATE: Two people killed in Route 460 wreck in Roanoke County identified

The wreck is near Peaceful Drive, just west of Salem, near the Montgomery County line. The county is describing it as a "serious crash". That's why we're not showing you the vehicles involved.

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. -

The names of two people who died in a two-vehicle accident on Route 460 in Roanoke County on Tuesday morning have been released.

Doris Moran, 71, of Elliston and Elgenna Cassell, 73, of Salem were killed in the crash that happened around 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of Route 460 and Peaceful Drive, just west of Salem and near the Montgomery County line.

According to a news release, Leon Brandau, 69, of Salem was traveling east on West Main Street while Doris Moran was trying to turn onto West Main Street from Peaceful Drive when the front of Mr. Brandau's vehicle hit the driver's side of Doris Moran's vehicle.

Doris Moran and a front seat passenger, Elgenna Casell, were both killed in the crash. Leon Brandau was taken to a local hospital.

All were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, and weather was not a factor.

Preliminary investigation has shown no indication of alcohol/drug use or speed involved in the wreck.

The accident happened when a vehicle headed east on Route 460, near Dixie Caverns, collided with a vehicle that had pulled out from the intersection with Peaceful Drive. The two people inside of the vehicle that pulled out from Peaceful Drive were killed in the accident.

A neighbor says he heard the crash.

“It sounded like a small air explosion more or less. I didn't hear any screeching or anything of that nature. Just a loud noise,” witness Penny Pendleton said.

Neighbors tell WDBJ7 this intersection is especially bad for accidents.
