UPDATE: Police still searching for suspects following chase in Roanoke

UPDATED: 12:30 a.m.

State Police tell WDBJ7 that the incident started with a traffic stop on Peters Creek Road in Roanoke a little before 11:00.

Police pulled over a White Chevrolet Equinox SUV on Peters Creek Road near the exit to Interstate 581.

Once the officer exited his vehicle at the stop, the SUV took off onto 581 and eventually pulled off of the interstate near Wells Avenue downtown, near Hotel Roanoke.

Officers lost sight of the vehicle for a few minutes and it was later found crashed at the intersection 14th Street and Salem Avenue.

Police searched nearby but did not find the suspects that were in the vehicle.

Police are still looking for them.

We're following some police activity in Downtown Roanoke.

Sources tell Your Hometown News Leader that Roanoke Police officers are looking for a person of interest at this time.

They were searching areas near Shenandoah Avenue and Patterson Aveneue around 11:00 Saturday night.

No word yet on whether this person is a suspect but we're still waiting for more details from the Roanoke Police Department.
