UPDATE: Police identiify man found dead in home on Grandin Road

Jeffery Mayo was shot and killed in a home on Grandin Road near Patrick Henry High School last week. A search warrant returned today says a couple people who knew him called 911 once they found his body blocking the front door.

ROANOKE, Va. -

Police have identified the man who investigators found dead in a house on Grandin Road on Wednesday.

Jeffery Mayo, 43, of Roanoke died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to a news release.

Roanoke police responded to the house in the 2700 block of Grandin Road around 1:00 p.m. after they received a 911 call from someone who had come to check on a resident of the home. The caller saw that the front door was ajar, and a body was inside.

When officers responded they found Mayo's body inside the house with bodily wounds, and cartridge cases were found nearby.

Mayo was a resident of the home.

No arrests have been made and the case is under investigation.

3:08 p.m. Wednesday: Police are on scene in the 2700 block of Grandin Road in Roanoke to carry out a death investigation.

Police were called to the house around 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. When officers arrived they were told that someone had found the door ajar, and had seen a person inside the house with wounds. Police would not say what type of wounds.

A forensic team is on site and the investigation is ongoing.
