Radford University says it's sorry for misspelled words on more than 1,000 diplomas.
President Penelope Kyle wrote a letter to alumni saying, "I understand the embarrassment this has caused the RU family - our alumni, students, faculty and friends alike. For this, I apologize on behalf of the University."
Kyle says two people reviewed the wording but overlooked the errors.
This was the school's first public response since students got the misspelled diplomas last week.
The mistake made national news and went viral online.
School leaders say they're sending out corrected diplomas and set up a customer service line for students with questions.
