Sick-out causes problems in Roanoke County

It was a busy day for Roanoke County school leaders after 35 bus drivers staged what's being called a "sick-out."

ROANOKE CO., Va. -

A Roanoke County school official confirmed Monday that the county will pay for all the full-time maintenance staff to get commercial driver’s licenses.

We've heard from some of those maintenance staff and parents who are upset about the decision.

The school system was adamant that this move is a backup plan in case there's an emergency situation similar to the February 28th "sick out" that forced the county to close school early.

That school official says the county hopes the maintenance drivers never have to drive a bus, but this just gives the school district extra options.

The county is hosting a job fair for drivers, nurses and cafeteria staff on April 17th.
