Roanoke County bank robbed; lockdowns lifted

The Roanoke County Police Department is investigating an armed robbery.
A suspect armed with a handgun walked into the Union First Market Bank around noon Tuesday afternoon, pulled out a handgun, and demanded money. The bank is in the 3600 block of Electric Road (Route 419), which is in the Tanglewood area.
The robber ran away toward the Penn Forest neighborhood and Chaparral Drive with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Several Roanoke County schools were placed on a precautionary lockdown during the search. The lockdown has been lifted.
The suspect, who is described as being in his late 20s, wore a black ski mask, black gloves, and a tan jacket during the robbery. He is described as 6-feet-3-inches tall.
The lockdowns at several Roanoke County schools have been lifted.
The Roanoke County Police Department is investigating an armed bank robbery.
The robbery happened at the Union First Market Bank, which is in the 3600 block of Electric Road (Route 419), and in the Tanglewood area. The bank is near the intersection of Route 419 and Colonial Avenue.
At the request of Roanoke County Police, the following Roanoke County Public Schools are on a precautionary lockdown:
Cave Spring Elementary School
Cave Spring Middle School
Cave Spring High School
Green Valley Elementary School
Hidden Valley High School
Oak Grove Elementary School
Penn Forest Elementary School
"At no time are students or staff in any danger. Again, this is a precautionary measure," said Chuck Lionberger, Roanoke County Public Schools Community Relations Specialist.
The North Cross School is also on lockdown.
