SALEM, Va. -

It was an exciting night at the Salem Civic Center as the brave ladies of roller derby laced up their skates.

Thunder in The Valley continued as New River took on Chemical Valley. Star City and Black Water also duked it out to see who'd come out on top.

Star City's coach and captain Kathy Cockrell says, roller derby is a full-fledged sport, not just entertainment.

"Unlike it was many, many years ago, where it was just entertainment, it's more about athleticism now. These girls work hard, they train hard some teams practice at least 3-to-4 times a week."

Cockrell adds that roller derby could be an event in the 2016 Olympic games.
