Nadia Singh reports on flash flooding easing off in Roanoke

All major streets in the City of Roanoke are back open following Wednesday’s flash flooding.

However, a few streets are still affected by the flooding.

- Only one lane is open for eastbound traffic on Orange Avenue near 5th Street. A downed tree forced the lane closure.

- The Wise Avenue bridge between Roanoke and Vinton is closed due to debris.

- Williamson Road at the Wells Avenue/Kimball Avenue intersection is now open, but the traffic signals are not operational. A four-way stop is in effect. The intersection is muddy and has debris from the storm. Citizens are encouraged to avoid the intersection if possible, and to exercise caution if they must go through this intersection.

-There is a tree down in 4300 block of Tyree Road, NW. Use caution when driving through this area.

- Huntington Blvd. NE between Bohon Street and Oliver Road is closed.

Roads are beginning to reopen after Wednesday's flooding caused closures throughout the viewing area.

The Greenway entrance at Lick-Run is closed at 10th and Andrews, because the Greenway Bridge has been washed away.

Several Greenway entrances are closed and parts of the Greenway system are underwater.

One of the hardest-hit areas on Wednesday was Williamson Road and the ramp from southbound Interstate 581 to Orange Avenue at Exit 4W and Exit 5 leading to downtown. Both exits and Williamson Road have been reopened.
