UPDATE: Charges pending after Alleghany County accident

7:45 p.m. update from Virginia State Police:
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2000 Ford pickup was traveling south on Route 220 when it ran a red light and struck a 2000 Western Star tractor- trailer loaded with logs.
The driver of the Ford pick up Jonathan Patrick Tucker, age 37, of Clifton Forge, Virginia and his front seat passenger Dale Thomas Austin, age 57, address unknown, were both airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
It is not known at this time if either were wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash.
The driver of the tractor-trailer Teddy Ray Fitzgerald Jr.,age 48, of Lynchburg, Virginia was not injured in the crash.
Charges are pending against the pick up truck operator, Jonathan Tucker.
A relative said Tucker was in critical condition Tuesday morning. Austin was listed in serious condition Monday evening.
Two men were airlifted to the hospital after an accident involving a pickup truck and logging truck Monday near Covington.
The accident happened around 12:50 p.m. on U.S. Route 60, near the off-ramp of Interstate 64.
U.S. Route 60 in the vicinity of the accident was closed for about an hour after the accident.
After the accident, the pick-up truck caught on fire.
Drivers should expect delays on U.S. Route 60 near Covington because of an accident involving a logging truck and a pickup truck.
Both directions of travel are closed.
The accident is near Interstate 64. Route 60 is also known as East Madison Street in that area.
The truck was on fire when crews arrived at the scene around 12:50 p.m. According to the Alleghany County Sheriff's Office, landing zones for two helicopters have been established.
