SALEM, Va. -

A landmark in downtown Salem is getting some fresh attention, and soon a new role among the restaurants and shops on Main Street.

The old Post Office is one of two buildings Roanoke College recently purchased.
It has already received a fresh coat of paint and a thorough cleaning.

Other improvements to the roof, air conditioning system and interior spaces are also in the works.

Teresa Gereaux is the school's Director of Public Relations. "Many people remember this building," she said in an interview Wednesday. "The front of it looks very much like an old historic post office, so we're happy to be able to give it new life on Main Street."

So far, Roanoke College hasn't decided how the building will be used.
A decision on that is expected later this fall.
