South Boston man facing murder charge in N.C. chase, crash
Authorities say a man who led law enforcement agencies on a high-speed chase that ended in a fatal crash in Guilford County is being charged with murder.
Assistant District Attorney Veronica Edmisten tells the Greensboro News & Record that 46-year-old Ronnie Fichera of South Boston, Va., is being charged with second-degree murder in the April 3 crash on Interstate 40.
He also faces a felony charge of fleeing to elude.
Authorities say Fichera was driving his SUV the wrong way on I-40 at about 10:30 p.m. that night when he collided with a Volvo. The other driver, 22-year-old Reagan Hartley of Willow Spring, died on the way to the hospital.
Fichera has been hospitalized since the wreck in serious condition. It wasn't known if he had an attorney.
