ROANOKE, Va. -

If you plan to be out on the roads tonight for New Year's Eve, Virginia State Police will be stepping up patrols.

Since the Thanksgiving holiday, state troopers have been participating in Checkpoint Strikeforce, an anti-DUI enforcement campaign.

In the past ten years, almost two of every five deaths that occur around the New Year's holiday were alcohol-impaired.

State Police remind drivers to always buckle up, obey speed limit signs, as well as stay alert to traffic around, ahead and behind you.
