SALEM, Va. -

It takes skill, strength and a lot of precision.

All of those were on display Saturday in Salem.

It was 2013 Pole Dance America's Preliminary Competition

The contest is open to both men and women.

Each dancer competes in two-rounds: one round is just the moves, while the other is a theme round.

"You have to really perfect your moves. It takes a lot of training -endurance training, strength training, making sure your transitions are correct. So, it's a lot of time in the studio. It's also a lot of time for other competitors working out in the gym to build more strength," explains competitor Jenni Waters.

Saturday's winner will go on to compete in the championships next year
