Updated On: Sep 04 2013 04:45:44 AM EDT
Be ready for slow moving traffic on Bent Mountain Wednesday.
The Virginia Department of Transportation is widening Route 221 at Back Creek.
Wednesday, workers will move all traffic into the new, northbound lanes there.
Flaggers will direct traffic at times starting at eight-30 this morning.
They should be finished by early afternoon.
All traffic will use the northbound lanes until the lanes headed south are finished.
That should happen sometime this fall.
Traffic switch planned for Route 221 in Roanoke County is rescheduled due to weather.
The traffic switched scheduled for the Route 221 widening project on Bent Mountain in Roanoke County has been rescheduled for Wednesday, September 4th, due to rain.
The traffic change was originally scheduled for Thursday, August 29th.
On Wednesday, September 4th, the contractor will begin work at 8:30 a.m. to move north and southbound traffic to the new northbound lanes and bridges over Back Creek.
Crews expect to have the switch completed by early afternoon on September 4.
Flaggers may periodically control traffic during this time.
Once the traffic switch has been implemented, two-way traffic will use northbound lanes with minimal traffic impacts.
Message boards are in place to alert drivers of the upcoming change.
This $20.1 million project is expected to be complete by fall 2013.
